Atmospheric Fired Pottery
Atmospheric firings refer to the kiln's fuel environment. My handpainted pottery is fired in a kiln that uses gas as the fuel. The pottery that is included within these pages and their links is fired in kilns that use wood as fuel and in some cases add salt or soda into the environment towards the end for glaze surface. I have been lucky enough to be invited to fire my pottery in several beautiful wood kilns, Hiroshi Ogawa's kiln in Elkton, Oregon, and the Santatsugama kiln in Seabeck, WA. Also included are some pieces that were fired in Gonzaga University's student wood kiln. I have noted in the descriptions where the work was fired.
