Freuen Home Kiln

The kiln I use at my home studio began its journey as a production car kiln in Tacoma, Washington, owned by Reid Ozaki and Rick Mahaffey. It traveled across the state to my studio in pieces where I put it back together and used it for many years as a Mid-range gas kiln, fired to Cone 6. In 2010, after many years of firing in wood fired and soda kilns around the Pacific Northwest, I decided to rebuild my kiln in order to adapt it to a high fired soda firing. I add about three hours of wood into the environment beginning at Cone 1 and then begin the soda injections around cone 8. Reduction cooling down to 1900 degrees takes about 6 hours once the kiln has reached cone 10 to 11.
